Ocala Pedestrian Accident Lawyer

Any time a car accident involves a pedestrian and any type of motor vehicle, there is a chance for serious injury or even death. In 2008, there were 4,378 pedestrian fatalities; 490 of those occurred in Florida. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), on average, a pedestrian is killed in a traffic crash every 2 hours and injured in a traffic crash every 8 minutes. The following statistics from the NHTSA refer to pedestrian accidents in 2008:

  • 69,000 pedestrians were injured in traffic crashes.
  • 72% of pedestrian fatalities in 2008 occurred in urban areas.
  • 76% occurred at non-intersection locations.
  • 89% took place under normal weather conditions.
  • 70% happened at night.
  • Pedestrians age 65 and older accounted for 18 percent (803) of all pedestrian fatalities and an estimated 10 percent (7,000) of all pedestrians injured.
  • Alcohol involvement — either for the driver or for the pedestrian — was reported in 48 percent of the traffic crashes that resulted in pedestrian fatalities.

Remember, if you are injured as a pedestrian, the car owner and driver are responsible for your injuries and your own auto insurance may cover you for the injuries you suffer.
